Do you need a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical for your trucking job? If you’re in East Brainerd, Tennessee, or the surrounding area, you can rely on Erlanger ExpressCare. We’re an Urgent Care Association-accredited clinic that’s been treating patients since 2019, and we’re pleased to offer a variety of occupational health services, including DOT physicals.

What to Expect During a DOT Physical

If you’re new to the transportation industry, you may be wondering exactly what a DOT physical entails. To ensure that commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers are physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy enough to maintain a commercial driver’s license (CDL), the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires them to undergo special physical examinations every two years.

During your DOT physical, a certified medical examiner (CME) will speak with you about your medical history and check your vitals. They’ll also assess your:

  • Eyes, ears, mouth, and throat
  • Heart and lungs
  • Spine and nervous system
  • Extremities
  • General appearance
